Case study: Strategic Planning & Development

SUMMARY

Multi-national financial institution required strategic alignment of a critical back-office function with organizational goals at-large, resulting in a multi-year operating model evolution program.

CLIENT CHALLENGE

A Fortune 100 firm was looking to enhance the effectiveness of their HR operating model. The organization lacked the capacity to deliver strategic services and even struggled to nail their basic offerings.

Another third-party consultancy helped them define a go-forward strategy and a high-level roadmap but left them with more questions than answers when it came to tactical implementation.

OUR SOLUTION

We worked to understand the third-party’s approach to inform the development of a detailed tactical program implementation plan. After the holistic plan was agreed to by executive leadership, we developed business cases for the individual scopes of work and supported the vendor selection process. As internal-driven projects progressed, we supported execution, including project planning, definition of key performance indicators and program management.

RESULTS & IMPACT

  • Produced program wide detailed implementation plan, including project resourcing recommendations and identification of ~$6 million in potential cost savings across the portfolio of strategic projects

  • Advised key decision-makers on end-to-end vendor selection process for Shared Services Transformation project, resulting in selection of best fit vendor, competitive pricing, and appropriate scoping of Stage 1 work

  • Facilitated navigation of internal politics to gain program support, obtaining unanimous go-forward approval from CHRO and Operating Committee members
